About British Airways

History of British Airways

For over 40 years, British Airways has provided tourists and holidaymakers with one of the best services in air travel in the UK. With the slogan of "To fly. To serve", British Airways - the flag carrier for the United Kingdom - was created in 1974 after the merging of British Overseas Airways Corporation and British European Airways, the two British airlines at the time.

With 40,000 staff and hubs located at London Heathrow Airport and Gatwick Airport, BA boasts a fleet of 293 aircrafts, 53 of which are the renowned Boeing 747-400 - making BA the largest operator of the model in the world. British Airways offers customers a range of 188 destinations around the world.

British Airways is a multi award-winning company, their most recent being the 2014 and 2015 Business Traveler Awards.

While promotions vary depending on the time of year you travel, British Airways regularly offers e-vouchers and discount codes for its customers.

British Airways offers an Executive Club reward programme for its most frequent fliers. Joining the club is free, and by spending Avois points - the club's currency - members enjoy exclusive deals and opportunities such as cabin upgrades, priority boarding and First Class lounges and spa treatments.

BA believes that charity and community relations is a vital part of business. They work around initiatives focusing on climate change, noise and air quality and recycling. Flying Start is British Airways' global charity partnership with Comic Relief UK. They aim to raise money for children living in poverty and hardship in the United Kingdom and around the world, raising over £6 million.

Ticket Information

As with all airliners, British Airways offers different levels of service. Economy flights are the cheapest, followed by Premium Economy, Business Class and First Class - the most expensive. Prices and comforts (such as food and sleeping arrangements) differ with each level of service.

Flights booked online will receive an email confirmation. Checking in online and on your mobile is also available through British Airways, 24 hours before the final departure of your flight. Once you have done this, you should print our your e-ticket or boarding pass and take it with you to the airport. Having your tickets delivered in the post may also be a possibility, depending on availability and eligibility.

Returns Policy

Refunds are processed automatically if your flight has been cancelled and rebooked by British Airways within 48 hours of departure.

A refund for reserved seats is available if there is a change in aircraft and they are unable to seat you elsewhere you are happy with, if there is a flight disruption and you have been moved to another flight, if you do not meet CAA safety requirements to sit in an exit row seat (and you contact BA about the matter at least 48 hours before your flight) or if you have paid for an upgrade and you do not want to pay the difference in an alternative cabin.

You cannot claim for a refund if you have cancelled your flight.

Security & Reviews

British Airways makes every effort to ensure customer confidentiality payments online, including the security of your credit or debit card information and any other personal details. When buying a BA ticket online, your web browser connects with the website through a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), an industry-standard protocol for encryption over the online, ensuring your online security.

All of your other personal information is also encrypted as it passes to and from www.ba.com. When information is encrypted, it is rendered useless on the journey between your computer and British Airways' server so that any potential malware or bugs can do nothing with it. The information is only unscrambled when it safely reaches the British Airways website. It's fast and safe and it ensures that your personal information cannot be read by anyone else. It is important to note, however, that any standard emails containing your personal data sent to or from British Airways will travel in a non-encrypted format.
