History Of Dr Martens
Dr. Martens, also known affectionately as "Docs" or "DMs," has an intriguing history that dates back to post-World War II Germany. The brand was born out of a partnership between Dr. Klaus Maertens and Dr. Herbert Funck. Dr. Maertens, a German army doctor, injured his foot while skiing and designed a unique air-cushioned sole to aid his recovery. He then partnered with Funck, a mechanical engineer, to produce and market their innovative footwear. In 1959, the duo decided to market their unique designs internationally, and this caught the eye of the British shoe manufacturer R. Griggs Group Ltd. In 1960, the first pair of Dr. Martens boots were created in the UK bearing a trademark yellow stitch, grooved sole, and heel-loop, officially launching the brand. Over the decades, Dr. Martens footwear has become emblematic of various youth subcultures, from punks to goths, and remains a symbol of rebellious self-expression.
